vCal Blogging idea

Description:

Well I still think there is a fairly simple way of getting iCal to do blogging without having any sort of special server-side software. I need to do a bit of investigation first.

iSync & iBlog

Description:

Well Apple released iSync. It has great potential, but is the beta it claims to be. I was able to get everything to work (sans phone which I don' have) . I'd love to see iSync have the capability of syncing mail across Macs and preferences across Macs.

It also needs to tweak Palm sync so that each Palm category becomes a separate calendar. Right now it just creates a single calendar...not very useful. No notes or memos either.

Well iBlog will have to undergo a name change. It seems there's a couple of "iBlog" applications out already. Stay tuned...

Test of iCal as a blogger

Description:

This is my attempt to use Apple's new iCal application as a simple blogging utility.

I'm assuming that with this I can publish a blog-like set of information using onlly the iCal application (and .mac).

True, the generated formatting isn't in blog standard "template" format, but this is cheap and efficient.

Maybe later I'll figure out how to publish into a template...

iBlogger is born!

Description:

Well it appears that I can build an effective blogging capability around iCal. It's not the best solution (it's not integrated into iCal) but it's effective.

I just need to do some more development, and polishing before I can release it.

vCal Exploder posted

Description:

I just posted vCal Exploder on my website: http: //www.VisualNewt.com/

vCal Exploder

vCal Exploder is a quick and dirty utility for use with PalmDesktop 4.0 and iCal 1.0. It's meant as a stop-gap until iSync comes out for people who want to migrate (not sync) from PalmDesktop to iCal.

vCal Exploder is used to:

- Generate multiple vCal files from a single input vCal file based on Palm category.
- Allows you to specify how long "infinitely" repeating events should actually repeat. When you export a vCAL from PalmDesktop, it assumes only 2 occurrences.
- Clean up "all day events" which normally import into iCal as entries where the end date is prior to the start date (marked as an "X" on a date boundary.

To use:

1 - Export your Palm calendar entries using vCal format.
2 - Launch vCal Exploder.
3 - Click on the Scan For Categories button and select the vCal file you created in step 1.
4 - vCal Exploder will build a list of Palm Categories found in your original file.
5 - Specify how many iterations "infinitely recurring" events should occur using the up/down tiny arrows. PalmDesktop and iCal assume only two iterations on export and import. This allows you to override things like birthdays, etc. which occur for more than 2 years, etc.
6 - Select the categories you want to import into iCal. vCal Exploder assumes you want to export all categories, and preselects all of them.
7 - Click the Export button.
8 - vCal Exploder will generate a separate vCal file for each category selected. The name of the file will be the category. The file(s) generated will be in the same folder as the original input file.
9 - Import each generated vCal file separately into individual calendars in iCal.

That's it.

vCal Exploder Hits 1800+ downloads

Description:

Well I didn't expect this much interest, but vCal Exploder has gotten over 1800 downloads on www.versiontracker.com.

Also, I've figured out how to do blogging using iCal data...now if I can only figure out how to get iCal to generate an event to automate it.
